JESUS AND THE PRESS

Jesus' ministry drew crowds.  Scripture gives two critical facets of His ministry that were responsible for that outcome.

  • His teaching of the Word of God – Luke 5:1.
  • His healing power and the miracles He performed – Mark 2:4; 3:10-11; 5:27.

These crowds often pressed upon Jesus.  At times this press:

  • Limited people's ability to get close to Him – Mark 2:4, Luke 8:19; 19:3.
  • Caused people to take desperate measures to get to Him – Mark 2:4.

NOTEWORTHY EXAMPLES

The Bible shares several stories of folks who were initially hindered by the pressing crowds as they tried to reach Jesus, including:

  • The folks who brought the man afflicted with the palsy to the Capernaum house where Jesus was teaching – Mark 2:1-4.
  • The woman with the issue of blood – Mark 5:24-30.
  • The tax-collector Zacchaeus – Luke 19:2-3.

Each one of them had to take action, sometimes extraordinary action, in their efforts to overcome the press that stood between themselves and Jesus.

  • Tearing a roof off a house and lowering a paralyzed man into it – Mark 2:4.
  • Dealing with the physicality of a moving animated crowd while in a severely weakened physical condition – Luke 8:43-45.
  • Zacchaeus had to expose himself to people who hated him because he was in league with the Romans and collected their onerous taxes by climbing up a tree in full view of the crowd – Luke 19:1-4.

THEIR TESTIMONY

These folks had to deal with the pressing crowds around Jesus, but all of them would declare it a small effort compared to what they received: physical healing and spiritual transformation. And they would say to each of us, no matter the challenges we face today, press through to Jesus.  He has what you need.  It is worth the press.

These words are meant to be an encouragement and blessing.  If you find them to be that, please comment by clicking on reply.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness (Isaiah 41:10).

It's almost like Jesus wants to see what we are made of! This week I had a vision of Jesus standing in front of me with a crowd, I was touching him on his arm looking around his shoulder to see what was ahead, and I saw all kinds of evil and trials, and I knew then with him in front fighting for me I could face anything!

We will not grow weary we will keep pressing no matter what storms come, as an equation (prayer + God's word = power. Press on! The cross reminds us as it resembles an addition sign we shall press on for added blessings, healing added , deliverance added , love, peace and unity. To sum it all up Jesus is our all and all. Press on!

Not much has changed from Jesus's day, crowds continue to limit people's ability to get close to Him; which also causes people to take desperate measures to get to Him. The truth is we have to overcome people to get to Jesus and all that He has for us to embrace. We mustn't stop pursuing Him because of the crowd, but press in and proceed to get our breakthrough. I thank God for keeping my mind in the press! He makes it worth letting go and moving on.
What a mighty God we serve!

As Christians we must always remember that salvation is free, but it will cost you everything, even your life. We must die of self and be a beacon for non-believers. It is not easy, but the reward is great. Remember, joy is on the other side of mourning.

Phillippians 3:13-14: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do know is forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things are before,... I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Pressing on is moving forward with more reason to do so. Cast all your cares upon the Lord for he careth for you. It is worthy to Press on.
